How to Win at Craps

Intuitively, the game of craps has clear rules: we roll the dice to throw the right number of eyes. Thus, it has the typical uncertainty of gambling and the randomness of the outcome, but at the same time, it also relies on the player’s ability to make good decisions, take risks, or make quick calculations. No wonder, then, that craps are known all over the world and have been for hundreds of years, it is a game that provides great excitement. What is the game of craps?

Craps games are one of the most popular games at the casino, and it’s also one of the easiest to learn. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

The first thing you need to know is the basic rules of the game. Craps are played with two dice, and players take turns rolling them. The goal is to roll a seven or an eleven on your first roll (known as a “natural”) or to roll a point number and then roll that number again before rolling a seven (known as “making your point”). If you do either of these things, you’ll win your bet. If you roll a seven before rolling your point number, you’ll lose.

One of the best ways to win at craps is to bet on the “pass line.” This is the bet that you’ll win if you roll a natural, and it pays even money. If a point is rolled, the pass line bet will remain active until either the point is rolled again or a seven is rolled. The odds of winning on a pass-line bet are about 50%, so it’s a good bet for beginners.

Another good bet for beginners is the “come bet.” This works just like the pass bet, but it can be made at any time after the come-out roll. The big advantage of the come bet is that it gives you an extra chance to win on each roll. For example, if you make a come bet and then a seven is rolled, you’ll lose your original bet but you’ll still have a chance to win on the come point.

These are just a few of the many different craps bets that can be made in craps. With so many options, it can be confusing for beginners. But don’t worry – the dealer will be happy to help you make your bets, and most casinos also offer free lessons for beginners.

How many movements are there during the game?

The game is divided into turns and the throws we make during one turn. Thus, the entire game lasts 13 turns, and each turn provides 3 dice throws. The first throw is made with all 5 dice we received for the game. The next two throws depend on the first throw: we can abandon them completely or choose to flip individual dice.

How many people are needed to play?

Craps requires a minimum of 2 people, and a maximum of 4 can play. So it’s easy to organize the whole thing since we don’t need a large lineup of players.

How much time does the game take?

With 4 skilled people, however, a game (that is, 13 rounds) takes about 15 minutes. Of course, if we have never played, we need to reserve more time.

Craps rules

Craps has strict rules, just like other table games. A craps table is used to count the individual points for each round. How the dice game scoring is done can be learned further on. The score on the table is entered when a craps player has completed all of his 3 throws (unless he finished earlier at his own request). The arrangement of the meshes must match one of the categories in the table.

The top table categories consist of ones, twos, threes, fours, fives, and sixes. Categories at the bottom of the table consist of bonus, total, three identical, four identical, full, small straight, big straight, general, chance, and sum

Categories at the top of the table

The craps table is divided into top and bottom categories. In the end, all categories are added up and this result shows who won the game. In the upper categories of the dice game table, there are:

  • ones
  • twos
  • threes
  • fours
  • fives
  • sixes

It is up to the player to decide which category he wants to assign his throws to – it is worth doing this with forethought, as it is not allowed to rewrite/change categories later. How to do it? For example, if he throws out two fours, two fives, and one two, he can choose from the categories: twos, fours, and fives. In the case of the category of twos, he will get 2 points, fours will get 8 points, and fives will get 10 points. Remember that we enter the final score in the table – we do not flip the dice after completing the table.

Choosing the right box is important because we try to collect 63 points at the top of the table. If we manage to do so, we get an additional 35 points in the bonus field. If the rounds are completed and we do not fill up all the categories, a score of 0 points should be placed in them.

Categories at the bottom of the table

The lower part of the table is much more complicated and requires players to know the dice combinations.

  • Three equal – a combination in which we throw 3 equal values. These can be, for example, 5, 2, 4, 2, 2. We threw three twos. This allows us to add up the values on all 5 dice, which gives us: 15. we enter the result in the table.
  • Four identical – the principle is the same but requires us to throw as many as 4 identical results. For example, we can throw out: 4, 4, 1, 4, 4. Here we also add up the value of all the dice: 17 points. Interestingly, we can decide that we want to put this result in “three identical” and we have this option (there are, after all, 3 identical dice in the layout).
  • Full – a hand in which we throw three identical and two identical: 5, 6, 5, 5, 6. Ful is always counted as 25 points.
  • Small straight – is thrown when four consecutive numbers of eyes appear. They do not have to go from 1, but they must count down from each other in succession. Thus, both the arrangement counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 as well as 6, 5, 4, 3, 1, etc. A small straight is always counted as 30 points.
  • Big straight – the principle is the same, but this time all cubes must arrange themselves in consecutive numbers. So we have only two possibilities: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. For a big straight we get 40 points.
  • General – a hand in which all 5 dice show the same result, such as 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4. For drawing a General, we get 50 points.
  • Chance – regardless of how and hand (or lack thereof) we throw, the player scores points from all the meshes.

Generals

We need to return to the General for a moment. If we already have a General category filled, and we managed to discard another General, we can treat it as a joker.

We then have a chance to fill in any of the vacant categories (for example, as a small straight or full). Entering him in these categories, we enter such a score as if we had drawn just such a hand, i.e. 30 points for a small straight or 25 points for a full house, respectively.

The moment we have all the categories at the bottom of the card filled in, we enter the General at the top, but here we enter 0 points.

In the craps, General scores extra points. If we draw the General once again (that is, we already have it entered in the General category and it has already been used once as a joker), we get an additional 100 points.
